Obscura Photog

Welcome to my blog. I post recent pictures for people to look at and discuss and critique. I will also post links to interesting photography, web sites, photo tutorial sites, design sites, and other blogs that I keep up with. There are alot of interesting and accessible sites out there. I'm also looking into developing more web hosting opportunities and announcements of interesting art installations, gallery shows, and whatever might be of interest here in New York City and/or around the globe. Thanks for checking things out and please feel free to comment, critique, make suggestions, or plug your own blog. All the best!

A Re-run

Ok, ok, ok. I know I've done this one before. I recently started working on cleaning up some of the photos in post with some better programs that I got for Photoshop. This would be how I meant it to be viewed in the first place. I'll also add back in the before so you can tell me if you see a difference.

BEFORE:

AFTER:

While they both have good merit, I like the second better. It has more of a stark contrast that I was looking for when I first took the picture.

A Classic - The Chrysler Building

So, Shannon has been kind enough to indulge in my hobby, so she let me rent this stupidly cool lens from the interwebs. It's a Cannon 24-70mm L 2.8. It rocks. The previous post contains two images I took with it. Here is my take on a classic, taken while doing a photo walk through the city.

This is of course the Chrysler Building. I still need a night shot. It is a little daunting photographing something so widely published. Maybe I can find a better angle sometime later. It was a nice sky that day which made for nice backdrop.

Canon L 24-70mm f/2.8 @ 27.0mm ISO 100 f/7.0  1/250 (3 exposures +/- 2)

Canon L 24-70mm f/2.8 @ 70.0mm ISO 100 f/2.8  1/250 (3 exposures +/- 2)

Contest Submission

Here is a group of three photos I submitted for this online contest. I didn't win, obviously, but it was fun to try and stream together images into a series and tell a story. These three deal with 3 different scales of both human subject and urban setting as one increases and the other diminishes.
Canon L 24-70mm f/2.8 @ 70.0mm ISO 100 f/2.8  1/250

Canon L 24-70mm f/2.8 @ 24.0mm ISO 100 f/2.8  1/2500
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 @ 18.0mm ISO 100 f/11.0  1/60 (3 exposures +/-2)

Let me know what you think. I think all the photos stand nicely on their own though the aircraft carrier might be considered out of context aesthetically with the other two. I should probably try for more consistency. Look for the next submission I am making soon.
