Obscura Photog

Welcome to my blog. I post recent pictures for people to look at and discuss and critique. I will also post links to interesting photography, web sites, photo tutorial sites, design sites, and other blogs that I keep up with. There are alot of interesting and accessible sites out there. I'm also looking into developing more web hosting opportunities and announcements of interesting art installations, gallery shows, and whatever might be of interest here in New York City and/or around the globe. Thanks for checking things out and please feel free to comment, critique, make suggestions, or plug your own blog. All the best!

Highline Railroad Tracks

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS @ 37.0mm ISO 100 f/11.0 1/40 (5 exposures +/-2)

Here's an HDR pic of some tracks on the newly opened Highline that stretches from the Meatpacking District up through Chelsea. It really is a great park and well executed concept by architects Diller, Scofidio, and Renfroe and lit by L'Observatoire.

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS @ 43.0mm ISO 1600 f/5.0 1/250

I have already posted a picture of these two previousl; however, here were some that couldn't be passed out. I think they came out great. The kid's gotta a sparkle, what can I say.

WWII Memorial Part IV

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS @ 18.0mm ISO 100 f/23.0 1/15 (5 exposures +/-2)

These are a few shots I took of a Monument near our apartment. It was the first time I went out and tested the camera. Some of the shots came out great, though the clouds didn't come out as smooth as anticipated so I had to run them all through a noise filter. Noiseware Professional is a great program.

It's Perfectly Safe... Promise.

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS @ 21.0mm ISO 100 f/16.0 1/800 (5 Exposures +/-2)

This is in TriBeCa near my office. You see this alot here in the city. It's comforting. As for the picture, I wanted to get rid of the Halo effect around the building edges but unfortuntaley I deleted the original TIFFS by accident. C'est la vie.

Battery Park Lampost

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS @ 21.0mm ISO 100 f/16.0 1/800 (5 Exposures +/-2)

Ok, it's a bit kitchy, but I don't care.

American Merchant Mariners Memorial part Dos

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS @ 45.0mm ISO 100 f/16.0 1/12 (5 Exposures +/-2)

Another image that I feel came out well. This way you can see the sculpture.

Spring in the Park

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS @ 23.0mm ISO 1250 f/3.5 1/250

This little cutey is Bennet being held by Mindy at spring picnic with our Church Group. Bennet's the newest addition to our friends Bryant and Sarah's clan. Nothing special done here, just a little post vignette and sepia tone with some added film grain. I think it came out alright, though I'm wishing I had a wider aperture. Oh well, Christmas is just around the bend.

The Dogs

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS @ 18.0mm ISO 100 f/5.7 0.3 (5 Exposures +/-2)

Ever vigilante.

Great Swamp - New Jesey

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS @ 18.0mm ISO 100 f/23.0 1/5 (5 Exposures +/-2)

Picture of the Great Swamp Reserve in New Jersey.

Battery Park Pier

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS @ 23.0mm ISO 200 f/11 1/200 (5 Exposures +/-2)

This is the title image as it was originally meant to be and without the letter box ratio. It is another HDR photo taken at Battery Park in New York City. I tried to get the sun to be proportional within the frame but maybe it could have stood to be a little larger. I'll open up the aperture up more next time.

Intrepid Bow

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS @ 18.0mm ISO 100 f/11 1/60

This was probably the very first HDR shot that I took. No Tripod, but this definately made it apparent I needed one. I think it came out alright.

Horse in Stable

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS @ 29.0mm ISO 400 f/4.5 1/25

This is Whisper. The namesake is due to he was once owned by the Horse Whisperer(er..er) True story. Took this shot out at my aunt's farm.

Horse Profile

Canon EF-S 25.0mm ISO 400 f/4.0 1/400

My Aunt's riding horse taking a bath. The transfer to jpeg loses some of its sharpness and detail of his coat. But overall I like the conversion to B&W. I also added the border to the image. I like the look.

American Merchant Mariners Memorial

Canon EF-S 57.0mm ISO 100 f/13.0 1/401 (5 exposures +2/-2)
Taken May 2010

This was another of the first HDR Images I produced. It is also without a tripod. Not much post production was performed on this outside of Photomatix Pro, and even in Photomatix only Tonal Compression. Photoshop there were some curves and masking of the the faces near the sun.

New York Stock Exchange

Canon EF-S 55.0mm ISO 400 f/5.7 1/6 (5 exposures +2/-2)
Taken January 2010 6:15pm.

Well here's the first post. More to come. This is one of the fist HDR photos I took and without the aid of a tripod, I soon got one afterwards. The size and resolution have been minimized for the web though I have high resolution TIFFS available as well.
